Homage to Rod Wilson, Wahale Onaga (White Eagle) 1945-2009

Original Watercolor 26″ x 36” 2007

WAHALE ONAGA
THIS IMAGE IS OF MY LATE HUSBAND ROD WILSON, WAHALE ONAGA OF THE SALAGI NATION,(CHEROKEE). THOUGH HE WAS NEVER RAISED ON A RESERVATION HE TOTALLY EMBRACES HIS NATIVE HERITAGE FROM HIS MOTHER WHO WAS A FULL BLOOD.
HE IS WEARING A WAR SHIRT HE MADE FROM DEER HIDES. THE HAIR ON THE REGALIA IS FROM DIFFERENT WOMEN FROM DIFFERENT NATIONS. TRADITIONALLY THE HAIR REPRESENTS PEOPLE THE WARRIOR FIGHTS FOR.
