EASTER TIDE to PENTECOST OR PESACH TO SHAVUOT
ACRYLIC MIXED MEDIA ON WATERCOLOR PAPER AND MOUNTED ON A BOARD 24X48
For me a piece of art should stand on it’s own without any explanation… yet there are obviously some exceptions. I could have looked at Picasso’s “Guernica “for years and never understood it until I knew the intent of the artist. Therefore I am sharing my intent with this piece of art!
The liturgical church has traditionally honored Advent…40 days prior to Christmas; Lent 40 days prior to Easter but the days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost have not been celebrated anywhere near to the extent of Advent or Lent. This Season called Eastertide or Paschal Tide is to remember the time between Passover, Easter, and Pentecost (the coming of the Holy Spirit) which covers 50 days, 7 weeks and corresponds to the pre-existing Jewish feast: the first day of Pesach (Passover) to 49 days latter to the holiday of Shavuot… the period known as Counting the Omer. The early church also kept these feast and celebrations. It was my intent in this art piece to illustrate the similarities and richness of these 50 days.
