The Mothers series began in 2001 with the colorful studies of My Daughter and her first born. A few years later my own mother passed away. During my grieving process, I began to collect some of her personal things to incorporate them into a collaged art piece. I call it “Mom”. Parts of the body that are white was watercolor paper where she tested her colors. The skirt is made of some of her paintings. The leaves she collected for many years in the Fall of New England. The stamps are from letters I wrote her from all over the world. And the body is that of my daughter in the image above. Thus representing 4 generations…my mom, my daughter, my first granddaughter, myself.
Acrylic and mixed media collage
My husband is a world class photographer. During his photo shoots I often do very quick gesture drawings and sometimes develop them into paintings as the next two Mothers. These moms met after their photo shoots in a birthing class, had their baby boys within 4 days of each other and have been friends since.
